Tight security needed please!

You dont have to switch on the TV Channels these days to hear about the anger that is evident among Indians about the helplessness and frivolously equipped security agencies and cops in Mumbai. Everybody in trains, buses, canteens, offices are talking about it. The newspapers are reporting how woefully inadequate is the provision of ammunition and how outdated and ineffective they are.

There are reports about lack of training facilities like practice shooting tracks and several cops not having fired a single practice shot in the last several decades! Appalling to say the least. We cannot expect our lathi-wielding cops to take on well-trained, well-equipped specially trained terrorists, can we? The problem of lack of training and practice is so acute that it has been reported in the press that a veterinarian doctor once called the police to fire a tranquilliser bullet into an elephant and the poor cop missed the elephant from a distance of 10 feet!

Against this backdrop, we find that the worthless politicians get Z-Security to protect themselves. While we get ZZZzzz Security! Mumbai Cartoonist Satish Acharya, whose cartoons are regularly published in Mid-Day has so beautifully created this cartoon from an idea provided by me. Collaborative blogging! Thanks, Satish.

We need some tighter Security please! And when I mean "tight" it is not the type where the security gulps down some spirits and gets "tight", for heaven's sake!

Do sign on this online petition to press for some real action! Let us not ZZZZZZzzzzzz over an important matter needing urgent attention!

Do Vote for me at Dubbagol!

The problem with the 'tight' security is that people think it is a headache.
Recently there were metal detectors installed at our Railway stations, but they had to be removed bcoz of people's opposition.People opposed bcoz they had to wait in long queues to enter the stations through the detectors. :)

Yes, Amol. We are people in a hurry, we cant wait for security checks, we cant wait for red signals, we cant wait for anything that stops us on our journey. But then that journey will take us to hospitals. From wombs to bombs to tombs.

I don't know whether it was by design or was it some sixth sense of Satish that is it going to be prophetic, but the cop giving Z security seems to be holding the gun to the politicians head!

If things continue the zzzzzzzay they are well.....

Vinod, yes. Satish seems to create straight from his heart! No complaints from me for that willing gesture from him.

They will never compromise on their own security. A disgusting lot.

No funny post on their unforgivable gaffes? One is insulting dogs, one believes he can comment on the women's lipsticks and men's suits, because they are not his vote back, another one thinks these are small issues - is it surprising that the country wished the terrorists had killed these guys when they came to attack the Parliament :)

I agree with Amol about people making a fuss if they are checked.

I wondered if tragedy and humour couls go hand in hand. Well I did not feel comfortable but all the same out came a limmerick.

That was an audacious attack,
Which took all of us aback,
A firece battle ensued,
Finding all of us to our TV's glued
Egging us on for a determined fightback.

Let us all get together and fight this menace.

A great caricature by Satish, I must say.

lol @ Mavin's limerick :)

IHM, these politicians are behaving more like stand-up comedians, but the anger within us prevents us from laughing at their gaffes. I prefer not to post what is already available on TV/in Newspapers. As regard the parliament attack, Afzal Guru should be hanged not because of the attack on Parl but because he did not complete his job!

Gopinath Mavinkurve said...

Sahaja, Yes I had already requested Satish for the cartoon to support this idea. Thanks.

Gopinath Mavinkurve said...

Mavin, Tragedy and Humor dont go together. That is the very reason that we are unable to laugh inspite of the best efforts of our Politicians. Limericks are generally naughty, mischievous, funny. But the limerick you have posted reflects the current mood and suits the occasion perfectly. Pathbreaking for a limerick. Thanks.

Nice line here. And the cartoon too. So true, we hardly feel secure.

Hi, arrived here from IHM's bog. Excellent cartoon, but also sad.
And yr comment about Afzal Guru not completing his job..
But we get the politicians we deserve don't we?

Welcome to my blog, wordjunkie. Thank you for coming over and leaving a comment on my blog. I am only reflecting the mood of the general public. We strive to get the best education, the best career options, the best future for our children. Can we say we get what we are looking for in our leadership? Did you feel so angry about your teachers or parents? Are we really to accept this unaccountable lot for what we get simply because "we deserve it"? this pressure will atleast force politicians to introspect and deliver what they ought to have been always.

You're entirely right! This is what our political system has reduced the common man to.

Hopefully, and yes, I hold firm to that hope, things will change, with the way the people have stirred.

Great cartoon too!

Gopinath Mavinkurve said...

Welcome to my blog, Usha. We need to continue to put pressure on the administration to see the change we seek is implemented asap.
We are stirred alright, but hope we dont settle down back to our cozy comforts soon.

Mavin: That was a nice limerick.

While politicians are clamoring for Z plus security, we aam aadmi have no security whatsoever ! Yesterday I saw on NDTV video clipping of a security guy pouring coffee or something from a flask for Mayawatiji !
